There is no ETA on when/if it will be fixed. SMTP, POP3, and IMAP are down indefinitely. If you had a mail forward set up before Dec 6, your mail should continue to forward for the immediate future (long term is uncertain). Mailing lists are down. If you did not have a forward on file, we used your alternate address if you had one (typically your @caltech address).
You can check whether or not forwarding is enablied by SSHing in and running ldapsearch uid=USERNAME. Look for the line mailForwardingAddress or mailAlternateAddress.
If you did not have forwarding set up and would like to set it up, please ssh into UGCS and run mail_forward AND THEN ALSO email email@example.com so we can update the stopgap forwarding mechanism
Otherwise, mail to you is being rejected. We felt this was a better solution than accepting it and delivering it really late.
Also gmail says we're spamming which may well be true, so forwards to gmail may not work well. At present it sometimes forwards properly. edit We added spamassassin and postgrey so hopefully this issue is resolved.
Also we accidentally received a bunch of mail for users without forwarding. I put it in their homedirs named mail_spool_from_dec_2013_when_mail_broke_and_we_were_silently_accepting_mail_rather_than_bouncing_as_we_meant_to
update: parts have been ordered and will be here Wednesday
update: firstname.lastname@example.org for updating forwarding only. Please direct all questions/comments/
